Returning mine for all the reasons citedJul 23, 2007
By Delegator I wish I had read the reviews here before buying my Sony car stereo with this adapter, which I am having uninstalled and returned tomorrow.
One aspect of the "ignition reset" not mentioned by other writers is that the iPod interface mode changes when the ignition is turned off. What this means is that there are three ways to navigate through your iPod songs: Album, Artist, and Playlist. Like many people, I prefer to navigate by Playlist. Well, every time the ignition is turned off (basically, as soon as the warning beeps sound, telling you to take off the face plate if you don't want your radio stolen), the unit reverts to Album navigation.
That wouldn't be as much of a pain, except for another funky glitch: switching from Album->Artist->Playlist will cause the iPod to restart at the first playlist on your iPod! So, if you go to the trouble of disconnecting your iPod when you shut off your vehicle, you'll still end up resetting to the beginning the second you want to navigate by anything other than album.
Oh, and that warning tone I mentioned? It's just annoying. Really, now -- how many people remove the face plate of their system every time? I'm sure there are some, but why not provide the ability to disable the warning chimes?
All in all this interface unit is barely adequate. The only reason I would use it over the AUX jack would be to have my iPod charge while playing. The navigation and usability are about as anti-iPod as you can get.

Not worth itNov 21, 2006

A pathetic attempt at iPod integration. Navagation is a trial and error endeavor. It doesn't remember the last place it was playing between you turn it on/off. The screen of the iPod has a dumb Sony Xplod graphic on it so you can't even use it to find a song and then have it play through the adapter. Deeply disappointed in Sony for this shockingly bad product.

major bugOct 07, 2006

"ndoble"
Unfortunately, this Sony adapter has several bugs in its software (that it loads into the radio when attached) and one of them is major - this unit will not resume play where it stopped when the ignition was shut off; instead it always starts from the first song in the iPod. Scrolling through songs to find your old place is not fast or convenient on the radio, and thus you are pretty much left with suffle play only. Another more minor bug is that when returning from an adjustment mode, the display does not return to it's full setting until something like the display button is pressed. This kind of sloppiness is not typical of Sony when dealing with Sony products, but is Sony's typical NIH (not invented here) attitude when dealing with a rival's product.

iPod Resetting - Small WorkaroundDec 18, 2006
By H. Cortez OK...I'm pretty much in agreement with the rest of the reviews posted for this product on the internet. I was also becoming pretty frustrated with the fact that the iPod would reset to the first song on the first album every time I restarted my car. But after tooling around with the setup in my car I discovered that the problem is that the iPod adapter does not disconnect from the iPod when the radio is shut off. Once your radio is completely powered off (the clock is not displayed), disconnect the iPod and manually turn it off (or let it shut itself off). This works for me since I have my iPod in a very accessible place. Just reconnect your iPod before you start your car again, and music will continue from the song you left off of. Really, all Sony needs to figure out is how to have the iPod disconnect after the radio powers down.

Simply horribleJul 20, 2007
By P. Coniglio This is probably the worst piece of Sony equipment I have ever purchased. Save your money and buy a headunit with ipod integration built in.
-Navigation through your ipod library is near impossible. -Unit resets EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU SHUT YOUR CAR!!! NO RESUME!!! -No display on ipod when hooked up to this unit, just the corny xplod logo. -Cannot use ipod controls when hooked up to make navigation somewhat feasible. -Text display on headunit will only display artist OR song OR album NOT ANY COMBINATION which is pretty much useless.
The only good thing about this unit is that it charges the ipod and has good sound quality (compared to an FM modulator).
I am using this on the Sony f-605x headunit (an amazing piece of equipment) it's a real shame this product could not integrate the ipod into such a great stereo. I never thought I would be complaining about Sony stuff but STAY FAR FAAAAR AWAY FROM THIS JUNK!
