5For those short on cash, but still care about how it soundsJan 13, 2010
By M. Kaainoa "Kekailoa"
These are among the least expensive speakers I have purchased, and are a great bang for the buck. I currently have them installed in an FJ40 (no interior sound deadening materials whatsoever) in 6x9 boxes, connected to a Kicker 08ZX100.2 amp @ 50watts x 2. The sound quality is great for no sub. I do not like to advertise that I have aftermarket sound equipment in the vehicle, so I did not really want explosive, loud bass. These sound tight and sharp. I may add a subwoofer later , but at this time I am very happy with the rich vocals and clear highs these produce. Granted, they are not up there with Focal Audio, or even Kenwood Excelon's, but for $50-$70, you really get your money's worth out of them. I will post an updated review at a later time if the foam surrounds wear out sooner than expected. Normally, I only get butyl rubber surrounds, but at the price, I will not complain.

Other speakers I currently have are:
Kenwood KFC-1662s - cheap and easy to find. Stock replacements for those not interested in "HiFi".
Kenwood KDC-X692 - More expensive than these, and worth it. At more than twice the price of the Rockford's, you can expect a lot, and these deliver. Seem to have much more bass when used full range, with or without an amp.
Infinity Reference 5022 - Good stock upgrades, purchased two pairs for $100 when on sale. They are in my daily driver. They sound clear and tight, but seem to be missing a few mid-range frequencies. I have to turn them up kind up loud to hear vocals clearly. Not much bass, but for 5.25", I shouldn't complain since I have a small sub to help them out.

5Tough as Nails and Good SoundOct 30, 2010
By Charles Seiler
I prefer paper woofers any time of the day. Paper woofers sound very natural and have a very nice mid range boom to them. Factory car speakers are ussually made out of paper, and they highlight mid range vocals very well. To those with less audio experience you won't notice the difference between paper woofers and mylar or poly woofer cones, but I can tell the different immedietely. I was worried about these speakers, since my dodge neon had paper cone speakers and paper tweeters that sounded amazing. However, the Dodge Neon speakers were paper and were ruined because of moisture. That is why paper doesn't work good for cone material with automotive use, since there is always moisture in a car.

These Rockford Fosgate 6" x 9"s have a slightly mechanical sound, as do all of the plastic cone woofers. There is less mid range, tight bass, and very high highs. I do miss the mid range sound, but with a little adjusting on an EQ, you can get the sound back. The only mark against these speakers is that they are slightly lacking in the mid range boom that is so noticeable with paper cone woofers. However, this is more of a personal preference thing, than a real blemish against these speakers. There is nothing bad to say about these speakers. They are as tough as any I've used. I can turn them up to maximum volume and the car sounds like it has a subwoofer in it, because these speakers have so much bass, and can handle so much power with ZERO distortion. It is amazing how tough these are. If you are looking for crisp sound, tight bass, and incredible highs, then these speakers will definitely do it. They do not have any distortion at even the highest listening levels, I've not been able to hear any audible bass distortion even with the bass turned up. Very well designed. I'm using them on my rear lid, below the rear window on my 4 door Dodge Neon. They don't have any enclosures, and yet they sound awesome with tight bass. Free air apparently works fine for these!

These are very loud speakers and overwhelm my front speakers with the extreme highs. I wouldn't recommend putting in these speakers on their own, without getting a matched set. The thing is, these have a very sharp tight sound, and that will not merge well with a soft natural sound of front factory speakers. The treble coming from these speakers is hard to miss, so I'd recommend a matched set, with front 6" round speakers for the doors, that way you have a matched sound coming from the front to back, and consequently, much better sound. I have 3 way front speakers, but they are not made by Rockford Fosgate, and the difference in sound between the front and back is slightly annoying to me. However, that's just me. It's a personal preference.

These speakers are built solid and can handle anything you can throw at them. Don't leave them in the sun, because that will ruin the foam surrounds.
Love these! Will probably buy another set of the 6" for the front of my car. I can't imagine finding anything that comes anywhere close to these for the price. Amazing.

5I Love These SpeakersJul 20, 2011

i have used rockford fosgate prime full range speakers with 2 15" p1 subs, and the sound is great, even though the bass is so loud you can still hear your high and mid tones perfect. i would/have recommended these to almost anyone that is on a budget and still cares about how it sounds

5Great midrange speakers not power hungry and can take anything you give emNov 04, 2011
By Grizzz
ive had these speakers for a couple weeks now and i will say these are the best speakers for people who cant really afford high end amps, but still want clear and loud mid range sounds from four speakers.

let me explain in more detail i had the Pioneer TS-A6994R A-Series 6"x9" 5-Way 600 Watts with the Pioneer TS-A1684R A-Series 6 1/2" 4-Way 350 Watts they were powered by the Alpine MRP-F300 - Amplifier - V-Power - 4-channel. i had no clue how power hungry the pioneer 6 x9's were so of course my little alpine amp could not handle it and i couldnt afford a better 4 channel amp with more watts. and thus my music suffered because of it. and to top that the 6x9s had way too much bass because i already had a sub woofer in the back so it would sound weird sometimes were the bass would drown out allot of the voice.

With all that said i bought these speakers and yes they have little to no bass, this is a fact. but if you already have a sub woofer and a weak amp these speakers are amazing, the alpine amp matches perfectly with these speakers because they do not need much power, and due to the fact that they have little to no bass they hit the highs and mids pretty well.

my system sounds wayyyy and i repeat wayyyy better with these speakers, so if you have a sub woofer and a weak but high quality amp like the alpine i have these speakers are really the best and one the cheapest options out there.

P.S these puppies can take allot of damage as well like some other people are saying, i have put them on full blast for along time and they have not been blown or damaged in any way, great speakers for the money
