Does what it's supposed to do!Dec 10, 2005
By Huntress I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.
The clip: For me, the clip worked fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite. Also, having no desire to move the webcam all around, the short cord is sufficient.
Overall, happy with my purchase. I have a logitech headset (note: Without the headset I did experience an echo when I talked) that I use with the camera.
I like the camera, and am (thus far) not disappointed.
Happy Shopping!

Very good product; Easy to install. Does what it is supposed to...Dec 30, 2005
By J. Giordano I researched different webcam/videophone solutions in order to purchase a gift for my in-laws and my daughter to communicate long distance. I wanted the easiest solution for them since they are not computer literate. Cost wasn't the first factor but I didn't want to spend $500 on a crappy solution. I looked at a couple of videophones, they seemed to be easy but they were definatley more expensive, and the reviews they were getting were not good. So I decided to go with a webcam, they were cheaper and had better reviews.
Since we both had laptops I chose the QuickCam. Let me start off by saying that it fit perfectly on both dell laptops. It was extremely easy to install on both laptops (running XP). I am not a manual reader so at first I was playing around with the software until I realized that the actual video conferencing software needed a subscription. So I decided to try a free messesnger webcam viewer. I tried Yahoo Messenger and found it to be very confusing. You had to broadcast, and sometimes you got super broadcast; and sometimes not even though I always have broadband.
That experience prompted me to try the software that logitech offers. They offer a 30 day free trial; so I downloaded, installed and registered. It worked great, the picture is clear and there is very little delay. It is easy to use and fairly impressive software. It really enhanced the camera experience.
The bottom line is that this camera is great for the price. If you want to fiddle around with 3rd party software (aol, yahoo, msn) the cost really great, but performance may take a hit. If your company owns professional software for video conferencing the cost is great. If you use logitechs videocall both parties need to use it and be subscribed with defferent accounts boosting the cost. BUT there is little delay, and it is easy to use.

Beware of undisclosed audio issues with Logitech webcamsFeb 26, 2006
By J. Marchetti Before buying this camera, go to the Logitech website user-discussion forums, and you will see that many users (myself included) have problems when videoconference with this (and other) Logitech webcams. The problem is that during video/audio conferencing over the Internet, the audio will go bad and result in pure static. The only way to resolve the issue is to end the call and start over, or put the call on hold and then resume a few seconds later. This is really annonying as it can happen multiple times per minute. The issue is certainly a HW or SW issue, as it is platform independent and occurs with Skype, MSN, AOL, etc. Logitech aupport has given no feedback on their website, and I will be returning my camera to the buyer or requesing a refund from Logitech for a defective product.

Who designed the clamp? Fire their ass!May 18, 2005

Quality of the video is excellent on Yahoo messenger. The face tracking is so so. Audio is good on messenger. Works great for video mail through Comcast.
You can take a snapshot like a digital cam with a button on the unit (once it is clamped down), or hold it and use like digital cam.
This would have been 5 stars if the clamp was worth a crap. It is useless out of the box on my Toshiba A75 laptop. It would have been better just to let it hang on the LCD rather than this clamping design. Velcro here we come!

Better than I expectedNov 07, 2005
By C. Cobb I purchased one of these last week for my laptop based on the reviews I found here. Since it's a lower cost item I wasn't expecting more than basic quality, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
The picture quality is absolutely excellent. The color on screen isn't all that true to life, but the clarity and the resolution of the picture was really good. We experimented with the still pictures and with making videos to email to friends last night. Both of those features work perfectly. The storage albums and the photo/video editing tools were also easy to use and worked flawlessly.
I wasn't all that impressed with the face tracking. It does work, but I'm not sure it's that great of a feature. For certain, it's not good if more than one person is in the picture (not surprising) since it tries to center on one person and cuts the other person out. The feature can be turned off though and then you can put several people in the shot with no problems.
I was expecting the size of the files to be a real problem for my email since I have dial-up at home. Again I was pleasantly surprised. I sent a 30 second video via email to a friend and it sent in only a few seconds. I also sent 5 of the photos in one email and that also sent instantly. I was thrilled with that based on previous experiences with other media files.
Other people have commented on the clip being a terrible design, but it worked fine on my Dell laptop. It is a little odd to figure out, but once you do, it's a good design. (More instructions for that would be useful.) I do wonder how well the clip will hold up under repeated use long term (will it stay tight or will it eventually become loose and not hold anymore) but for now I'm satisfied.
The size and appearance is also appealling. It was smaller than I'd imagined it would be when I researched it online. Kinda cute actually.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is using it for online chat. I'll do that later this week when I'm on a high speed connection. Based on it's performance so far, I would expect that to also be a first rate experience. (I wouldn't expect it to be good on my dial-up, though I will try it and see when I get a chance.)
The setup was simple and straightforward. I'm only moderately computer savvy and I had no difficulty at all in understanding the instructions or loading the software. Both the software and the device are very user friendly in my opinion.
Overall this is a really excellent product for the price and I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the market.
