First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility.
With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!
Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.
Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. | | | Features: | |
• All-in-one Internet-sharing router, 4-port switch, and Wireless-G (802.11g) access point
• Wireless data rates up to 54 Mbps--5 times faster than 802.11b
• Shares a single Internet connection and other resources with Ethernet wired and Wireless-G clients
• Interoperates with 802.11b clients at 11 Mbps
• Advanced wireless security with 128-bit WEP encryption, MAC, or IP address filtering

Great router for WDS using DD-WRTJan 02, 2010
By Ashok Aiyar The Linksys/T-Mobile WRT54G-TM is based on the WRT54GL built to T-Mobile's specfications for UMA access from WiFi-equipped T-Mobile phones. This router has several upgrades relative to the WRT54GL - most notably 8 MB of FLASH memory, and 32 MB of RAM. The processor speed remains the same at 200 MHz.
Although this router hasn't been made for more than two years, it is an excellent choice of DD-WRT (and other alternative Linux based firmware). There are also excellent hardware hacks available for it.
I use two of these routers for a WDS MESH network - that gives us terrific coverage throughout our house. The advantage of WDS is that the same SSID is used by both routers and therefore permits roaming. Running DD-WRT the transmit power can be adjusted from 1 - 251 mw, and the processor can be overclocked up to 250 Mhz.
I purchased both my routers from eBay - there are cheaper deals available occasionally at other sites. This router was one of the final WRT54G models in which the antennas can be easily replaced - very useful if one needs a high-gain omnidirectional antenna, or a "focused" cantenna.
Finally, it is relatively simple to add SD-CARD support to this router -- the pinouts are available, and it requires a steady hand, and a little soldering.
You cannot go wrong with one of these - as long as 802.11g is sufficient for your needs.

Best kept secret for DD-Wrt hackers!Oct 12, 2009
By Timothy R. Lindley This product is the must have now that it is supported by DD-Wrt.
The atrocious T-Mobile firmware is so HUGE and requres so much RAM that Linksys specially made these units with 32Megs of nvram and 8 megs of RAM. 200 meg proc. this is like getting a wrt54gs but with twice the memory and 4 times the storage. you can load full distributions of dd-wrt and even probably store some logs on these.
It is a wrt router so theres no suprises there. if you are looking for a dd-wrt capable router this is the one to get.
No t-mobles folly is a dd-wrt hackers fortune. picked mine up for less than i would have a wrt54gs. and i love it. my GS was crashing weekly with an old version of dd-wrt on it and i think the tcip connections were filling up the ram. now i dont have that problem.

The best home wifi router in the marketFeb 02, 2010
By Ilya Devyatovsky The whole setup of the router w/ mac-address cloning, mac-filter and WPA2, took me less than 5 minutes. And it's the best platform for dd-wrt considering the ~$60 price.

USEFUL AS BRIDGEJun 13, 2011
By V I know nothing about routers, so you out there that need to boost your wifi area, this one does the trick. Easily secured, very easy to install and if I can do it, you can too. I purchased mine new on eBay for a very cheap price, like $35 + s/h. Its blazing speed lets me surf the net just as if I were hard wired connected. Well worth it if you can find one. Hope this helped.
