2playback often strugglesSep 14, 2006
By JDG
I got this portable Coby DVD player (model TF-DVD7005) as free promotion. I'm not impressed. When it is working, it has decent picture and sound. But it seems to have real problems reading the DVDs. Sometimes it completely rejects the DVD with a message that says "Wrong Disc", other times it accepts the DVD but the playback is blocky. Sometimes it plays well for several minutes and then freezes up. It does much better with production DVDs than DVD-R/RW, so don't get it if you have a bunch of DVD-R's. And if you decide to buy it and it gives you problems with a DVD, power it down and restart it. Often that helps, but sometimes you have to do it 2 or 3 times.

And just to clarify a couple of things, the first time I had blocky playback was the first time I used it, right out of the box. And it was with a production DVD. And it was running off the power cord (in case you were wondering if it could be low battery.) And it was stationary, at home, not in a moving vehicle or anything like that.

2Coby Portable DVD PlayerJan 06, 2007
By A. Abrams "Metalqueen"
When I first got the Portable Dvd player I charged the battery and when I inserted a dvd and after a few minutes it would freeze and skip certain parts of the movie. I tried to restart it and tried other dvds and it kept saying "Wrong Disc". So anyone who is looking to get this Portable dvd player I advice you not to becuase it will cause a lot of problems and its just going to be a waste of money.

4Can't complain for the priceFeb 12, 2007
By C. Viray "AreM"
I recieved this DVD player as a Christmas gift. I know it's a cheap dvd player and got it as a gift, so can't really complain. But I'll point out some stuff just in case you're considering this one.

Screen:

Screen resolution isn't that great and can't really see much of a change with adjustments, but DVD's are watchable on it.

Compatability

It plays DVD-R's I've burned and most factory bootlegs that I've tried. Some bootlegs the audio is off. Don't know if it's the player or disk since some of the bootleg disks don't even play on my Panasonic or Samsung DVD players, but disk works fine on computer DVD drive. Haven't tried any original disks since I don't have any here. It also plays MP3's and pictures. Resolution of pictures don't show up that clear on the screen.

Battery:

Haven't really had the chance to watch a full movie on it, but battery seems to last long. I only charged the 3000mAh battery once since I got it. Battery can be charged while in use.

Cables:

I like that it comes with AC adapter and car adapter. I don't know why it doesn't come with video and audio out cable. It has the ports for video and audio out, but no video in. :( I was hoping to be able to connect my iPod video to it to have a bigger screen when watching videos.

Bottom line. If you're looking for a cheap DVD player and don't want to spend the money on a more expensive one, this one's not so terrible. It's light enough, screen size is good enough.

If you have a laptop with a DVD drive, you'll probably enjoy watching a DVD more on that since it has a bigger better screen.

I give it 4 stars out of 5, for it's cheap price and it does what it's supposed to do even if it's not done exceptionally well.

3decent performance, poor designSep 13, 2007
By Dennis W. Srader
This player has two drawbacks, short battery life, (50 minutes), and limited control without the remote.

The local controls would be adequate IF the stupid machine didn't always launch with the English subtitles on. You must have the remote to turn them off. Very inconvenient when trying to watch a movie on a plane, but then, it's worthless on a plane since the battery only lasts less than an hour anyway. (What WERE they thinking?!!) Hey, its a Coby, you get what you pay for.

4Great GiftApr 03, 2007
By Alisa D. Combs "spoiled_1"
I just received it and already love it!!! It was actually part of a promotion, but I've done research and I think it will suit our needs just fine. It has alot of bonuses. 1. A rechargeable battery. 2. A DC plug for use in a car. 3. A built-in speaker so you don't have to use headphones. 4. It's small and compact so you can take it anywhere. 5. You can hook it into a tv if you want to.
