very poor qualityJan 12, 2009
By J. Stam I bought this unit to add to my Alpine IVA-W505 which was the best Alpine head unit at the time. I'm very disappointed with the quality!!!! The graphics are worse than the original Nintendo!! Map information is from several years ago and no updates are yet available. The nav system crashes and resets itself often. And if you plan on traveling out of town it takes forever to load guidance info. It does work as a basic nav system but it really cheapens the look of your 1000 plus dollar head unit. If you have the money buy Alpine's dvd nav set up or if your on a budget get a standalone garman you'll be much happier!!

Wish there was another choiceSep 23, 2010
By mugendude I had the Blackbird II. I bought it because it was the only nav that would work with the W505 at the time. Its performance was horrible. Along comes the NVE P1. It's newer so I jump at it. Instead of five year old maps, it had three year old maps. I've bascally given up on Alpine nav units. I find out a few weeks ago that the NVE P1 has an update now. It will cost 99 dollars. You get a new unit. You send your old unit in. There is no way to update the maps via anything on the NVE-P1. How does this unit perform? Not great. It has reset itself twice in the two and a half months I've had it. Avoid Alpine Navs at all cost. I feel it is my duty to stop others from buying Alpine crappy nav systems.
The W505, BTW, is great.

TOTAL JUNKApr 20, 2011
By BC Forced to buy this after my blackbird died, it's the worst P.O.S. ever. constantly searching for signal, has to be reset constantly, maps are more messed up than ever.I have owned every Alpine navigation and one thing is constant ALPINE MAKES HORRIBLE NAVIGATION UNITS PERIOD. If it weren't that it docks into my Alpine head unit I would have walked away years ago...STAY AWAY!!!

Do Not BuyNov 29, 2010
By Eugene the Jeep While being advertised as updatable via PC, Alpine never provided the software or any updates. Now they are charging $99 to exchange your old unit for a new one with "supposedly" updated software and maps.

I purchased this for the bluetooth feature, mainly. It worked great for a bit ,then failed to pair. I was able to get it paired and I'm fairly satisfied with it since the separate BT module is much more costly... I have high hopes for the sw update that is coming soon to fix the outdated info on restaraunts and rural streets/areas. Have always loved Alpine, but they seem to be slipping; nonetheless, I hang on to this along with my W505 and "module (aftermarket)" to allow me to watch movies... overall.. get reviews on the update and if you are buy for the bluetooth, ask around first. It works fine overall, but if I could go back and do it again, I would NOT have purchased this unit together with the w505.
